The Takumi pays tribute to Arai's craftspeople. In Japanese, Takumi signifies absolute mastery — the mastery of the painters and assemblers who have been hand-building every helmet for 70 years in Omiya.

The VZ-RAM is Arai's benchmark open-face helmet. Hand-made in Japan with the same rigor as their competition models, it incorporates race-proven technology into an open-face design built for the road and the city.

Highlights
Hand-made shell
Each shell is assembled manually in Japan, layer by layer. More rigid and lighter than a standard shell, it is impossible to replicate in mass production.
Rounded profile for better protection
Smooth outer surface without protrusions. In the event of a fall, the helmet slides and dissipates the impact rather than catching and transferring it to your neck.
Wide-angle long visor
Longer than a standard open-face visor to provide more protection for the lower face. It can be swapped in seconds without tools, clear or tinted depending on the weather.
Effective ventilation at any speed
5 air intakes and 6 air exhausts ensure active circulation even at low speeds in the city. Less heat, less fog.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose my size?+

Measure the circumference of your head 2 cm above the eyebrows. The VZ-RAM is shaped as an intermediate oval, which suits the majority of European head shapes. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger size and allow a few weeks for the foam to adapt to your shape.

What is the lifespan of an Arai helmet?+

Arai recommends replacing your helmet after 5 years of use, even without visible damage. The interior foam and shell materials degrade over time due to sweat and UV exposure. In the event of a fall, even a minor one, replace it immediately.

Are visors interchangeable between VZ and SZ ranges?+

The VZ-RAM visor is compatible only with helmets that share the same mounting system, called VAS-Z. Compatible models include the Arai SZ-R VAS and the Arai SZ-R EVO (ECE 22.06 standard). Older generations like the SZ-Ram 4 are not compatible.

Can this helmet be worn with glasses?+

Yes, the interior of the VZ-RAM has been designed to accommodate eyeglass temples without pressure or discomfort. Spaces are provided for this purpose in the interior foam.
